The 2010 Theatrical Release of Killers reinforced several popular opinions about the primary actors, Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher, who played opposite each other in this movie. Heigl, who has a reputation for portraying the waspy female who hasn’t quite found love, then finds love, then discovers another layer which causes conflict in the love that was found. Ashton Kutcher has the reputation for playing the role of hapless jokester, but with a sweeter, romantic side. Both of those things were portrayed in Killers. However, both actors also opened a new leaf regarding their on-screen reputation in this movie. Kutcher portrays a very capable, professional, spy persona that viewers hadn’t really seen before 2010. Heigl eventually embraces a very violent, tactical persona, thought that role was perhaps out of necessity inside the framework of the film. Both actors highlighted what we knew they were good at, and still brought something new to the table that audiences might not have seen, or known was there.
Similarly, the film locations, film settings, and filmography of Killers showcased some of Douglasville and Metro Atlanta’s most beautiful, scenic locations. But Killers also introduced a lot of movie goers to visuals they had never previously seen highlighted in Georgia, especially the Douglas County area. Specifically, Killers uses a large part of what we know as the Tributary Community neighborhood in Douglas County, near Sweetwater Creek State Park. This pristeen, almost “Stepford Wives” suburban setting was perfect for the characteristics that director Robert Luketic wanted to portray for a great length of the film. And not to add any pressure, but the footage had to look good enough on screen to match up with famously beautiful filming locations like Nice, France. But if you’ve ever seen Killers, you know that Douglas County stacks up quite “Nice”ly.
More on Douglas County’s Role in Killers
Beginning in the fall of 2009, and continuing throughout 2010, Douglas County’s very own Tributary community was used to paint the suburban, perfect-couple backdrop for Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl’s characters. The setting of this quaint, pleasant community makes an important contrast for the violent heroism that Heigl and Kutcher must undertake in order to survive the attacks against them in this comedy-based action/adventure/thriller.
